The Clause say album is ‘imminent’ as they gear up for 110 Above Festival

There’s not long to go until we head to 110 Above so we caught up with Birmingham quartet The Clause who are dying to play a festival.

Just like most of us who are to be watching in the crowd, The Clause haven’t played a show in a good 18 months. For frontman Pearce Macca, it’s something the four have been looking forward to.

He said: “It’s been two years since we played a proper music festival and we’ve been waiting for this moment since then.

“We’ve been non-stop writing since everything shut down and perfecting these new songs within a live set that’s going to blow everyone away. We can’t wait to see everyone down the front at 110 Above on Friday!”

It won’t be their first festival of the year however, as the Brummies were picked to perform at BBC Radio 1’s Big Weekend where they performed ‘Time of Our Lives’ live from Vada Recording Studios.

Speaking of the experience, Macca commented: “‘Time Of Our Lives’ was a big comeback single for us after the pandemic, I think you only have to look at how well it did in the charts, hitting No.1 in the iTunes Rock charts to see how people have taken to it, we’re so grateful for all of our fans backing on that single.

“We’ve tried to make an ever-evolving sound a main feature of our band and we don’t like to confine ourselves to a particular style of writing, there is so much more to come.”

Macca added: “To be on the same lineup as so many renowned artists like Ed Sheeran and Royal Blood was a massive honour and a first taste of what it’s like to be put in the same bracket as some of these massive artists.

“We had so much fun getting back into the studio to get this live track down and we believe as a group this is the kind of stage we deserve to be on and hopefully it is the kind of stage you’ll be seeing us on over the coming years.”

As The Clause have had a lot of time to reflect and write, they are back stronger than ever. Macca spent most Saturday nights home alone locked in the shed at the bottom of his garden coming up with a shedload (pardon the pun) of new tunes.

Giving only slight subtle hints away on an impending debut album, Macca said: “All we can say at this moment is we have an army of tunes we wrote and recorded over lockdown and they are even bigger and better than what has come before.

“An album is iminent, we are just biding our time until the right moment to release it to the world presents itself. There are going to be some massive things coming out of camp Clause over the next year.”

So with an impending album, will there be any new music on the setlist for Friday? Yes.

“110 Above is going to be one of our first proper gigs since lockdown,” said Macca. “We’ve got a setlist with five new songs buried in it, everyone at 110 will be amongst the first to ever hear them.

“We’re absolutely itching to get back out there and it’s right round the corner we can’t wait!”

For you wonderful people reading, The Clause aren’t just the only act performing. I asked Pearce if the band had been listening to many of the other artists to which he responded “the line up is a real treat”.

We gigged alongside Black Honey before the pandemic and they’re a real solid live band you will want to go and see,” adds Mecca. “We’re also gigging alongside The Snuts on their tour this year who you won’t want to miss at 110, we love the fact they’re a band who grafted to achieve their dreams for almost a decade before releasing their debut album that went to No.1 which is an inspiration for so many upcoming bands.”

There is one more special interview coming for you tomorrow – See you at 110 very soon!

Modern Age Music Song of the Day: Retro Video Club – ‘Checkmate’

Fresh out today this indie rock track ‘Checkmate’ is nothing but a masterpiece. With its hard-hitting vocals and high energy chorus it is not hard to imagine the distinct intro starting a mosh pit at any festival. Likening to the sounds of rock legends, Sea Girls and The Hunna, this first single from Retro Video Club sends them on their way to becoming one of the big names of the genre. Having been watching their identity grow through their coherent black and white Instagram feed the tone has impeccably set for this number and we can’t wait to see what
