The song ‘Milk’ from The 1975 appeared on Spotify without any announcement and whilst some would assume that it is a brand new track, it is in actual fact a remastered version, previously hidden in another one of their tracks, ‘You’. It first made an appearance on the ‘Sex’ EP back in 2012 and was then released in the band’s deluxe version of their self-titled debut album in 2013.
The song has an 80s indie pop vibe, injected with a strong and catchy groove. It has a cinematic feel in that it wouldn’t be out of place if it were to be included in the soundtrack of an iconic 80s film such as ‘The Breakfast Club’. As a complete juxtaposition to the upbeat melody, the song’s lyrics talk about a girl who tries to fix her broken heart through cocaine, using the word milk as a euphemism for the drug.
The band announced their third album in April, causing confusion as Matty Healy talks about “Music For Cars” which, if fans are correct in thinking it is the title of their third album, also shares its name with the band’s third EP, released in March of 2013. Talking about the album, Healy said “It’s always been called that and we were always going to do a trilogy of records. I’m not saying that after this record it’s the end of The 1975 but it’s definitely the end of an era.”
