It isn’t very often a band comes along that shows such talent you believe in them entirely to go far, but that is exactly how I feel about Sheffield 4 piece Sophie and the Giants (believe it or not they’re actually pretty average sized men).
Their incredible debut single “Monsters” shows off the bands impressive songwriting for such a new band. The song begins with a catchy electronic beat that you can’t help but nod your head to, it then progresses into the opening verse where Sophie’s mature and seemingly effortlessly stunning vocals are accompanied by soft guitar and the continuing clicky upbeat rhythm in the background that’s been stuck in my head since I first saw the song live.
The chorus doesn’t over-complicate itself which works entirely in its favour, the raw vocals and solid production creates a truly unique, euphoric sound. ‘Monsters’ is This Feeling’s track of the week on Radio X and the band are currently touring with Trampolene and Himalayas. One thing that I can say for sure is that you definitely need to catch this band live.
