Song Of The Week comes from Melbourne-based seven-piece King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard who released their thirteenth studio album on New Year’s Eve.
The band have given us a whopping five albums; Flying Microtonal Banana, Murder Of The Universe, Sketches Of Brunswick East, Polygondwanaland and now Gumboot Soup. Some bands take years to write five let alone in one year, so this is impressive stuff from the Aussies.
‘All Is Known’, is a grungy rock track with a cracking guitar rhythm throughout the song – it’s classic King Gizzard. The track is about humans being vermin and old technology. Sound pretty dark don’t you think?
Fans have noticed the track has been in the bands live sets for a while now. The band had stated that Gumboot Soup is more of a collection of songs than a narrative album, it’s possible “All Is Known” may be left over from earlier recording sessions. In any case, the track is a mind-bending journey from Australia’s psychedelic kings.
Stu Mackenzie, the band’s frontman, said in an interview: “And the idea for the fifth one was to have all of the songs – they’re definitely not B-sides or anything.
“They’re more songs that didn’t work in any of the the rest of the four records, or they didn’t fit into any of those categories that well, or they came together slightly after when those records came together.”
