Song Of The Week: Spilt Milk Society – Amsterdam

Happy New Year everyone! 2018 is going to be one hell of a year for music again! Our first Song Of The Week comes from Birmingham-born quintet Spilt Milk Society who released their Christmas Eve single ‘Amsterdam’.

The band was formed by vocalist and songwriter Harry Handford and lead guitarist Josh Hyde in 2015. Adam Handford immediately started as the band’s bassist followed by longtime friends Chan Kathuria and Harry Kilminster on drums and on guitar.

Single ‘Amsterdam’ opens with soft guitar melodies and what sounds like delicate taps of a triangle, before Handford’s vocals steadily build up to an anthemic yet still fittingly delicate chorus.

Blending indie-rock instrumentation with pop vocal melodies. Spilt Milk Society are constantly exploring and experimenting with their direction.

Previous single ‘She Tastes Like Summer‘ followed similar suit – captivating and charismatic vocals with subtle harmonies. The band are prepared for whatever 2018 may face. We can certainly expect more experimentation and gigs across the UK.

For fans of Swimming Tapes, Bad Sounds, Alvvays, Mild High Club.
