It’s been over a year since we’ve heard any new material from Bloody Knees, that is until they posted their new track on twitter. This four piece band from Cambridge bring a lo-fi punk sound as well as elements of American pop-punk.
Titled ‘I Want It All’ the new track opens with an intense amount of heavy guitar paired with ferocious percussion. There’s no fussing about with fancy intros and floaty chimes, they hit it hard immersing you into a pretty vigorous sound. If you haven’t listened to the song yet I highly recommend you go outside, put your headphones in and whack this sick song up to full volume – that’s what I did and I got goosebumps.
The song progresses and we hear the soothing, yet striking vocals of frontman Bradley Griffiths. The contrast between his melodic voice and the rockish nature of the song create something really special. The chorus has a rather angsty vibe to it painting an image of the stereotypical rebellious, angry teen.
Bloody Knees have seemed to have ventured away from their usual horror-infused lyrics that focus on death and mortality, leaning more towards the conventional topic of, yes, a girl… There is definitely a move from their typically cryptic style in this new song, appearing to be more ‘user-friendly’.
It features reckless electric guitar riffs that remind me of old-school heavy rock and grunge, similar to the likes of music gods Nirvana, but not quite as heavy of course. Nevertheless, it’s still a gnarly track that balances melody with screeching riffs, as well as slotting in a tense build up to the last chorus. Truly an amazing track that would be insane live.
