Rosellas showcase Mancunian grit with impressive indie rock

Hailing from Manchester, Rosellas certainly knows how to pay homage to their predecessors. But there’s no denying, they’re the new kids on the block.

Forming in 2019, the band have already made tracks in the indie-rock scene. They’ve been compared to the likes of Arctic Monkeys and DMA’s but they’ve combined a cheeky Mancunian twang with impressive synth and guitar, laced beneath a spotless production, to really carve out their own sound.

This is particularly highlighted in their recent single ‘Damaged’, which juxtaposes an impressive sound with striking narrations of love and loss.

The track has a powerful yet rooted chorus that builds throughout the song to produce a song that you’re left wanting to listen to again and again.

The lyrics are reminiscent of a Northern grit that is embedded throughout most of their music but fits well with the moody soundscape that ‘Damaged’ brings.

In frontman and songwriter Drew Selby, Rosellas have met a rugged yet soft voice that perfectly mirrors the atmosphere of the song. Selby’s vocals are reminiscent of some of the great indie bands of the 90s but blend effortlessly with the melodies of the rest of the band.

The track is accompanied by two B-sides ‘The Edge’ and ‘Inside’, which are both equally as impressive as their parent track.

Rosellas are destined for great things, with these three songs providing the only proof we need. ‘The Edge’ is a nostalgic sonic letter to love – To Manchester and to being in love in Manchester.

Quite literally silhouetted against the backdrop of the Northern city, Rosellas produce a distinctive sound in each of the three releases but effortlessly marry them all together with their own standout sound.

There’s no doubt Rosellas are heading for greatness in 2021.
