RAT BOY bassist Liam Haygarth debuts solo project MILA

Having already achieved success as the bassist for RAT BOY, Liam Haygarth has launched his solo project MILA.

The bedroom-pop artist dropped ‘Queen Of The Hive’ today (October 9th) and has hit the ground running.

Whilst fusing elements of indie, hip hop and slacker, MILA is a big ball of infectious, energetic sound. Some of that takes clear influences from RAT BOY, but Liam is looking to make his own mark as he looks to get placed alongside the likes of Homeshake, The Strokes and Joey Baddass.

‘Queen Of The Hive’ will certainly get himself closer to cementing his name on that list. The hip-hop indie is very infectious and extremely catchy. It’s difficult to stop your self from singing along to the lyrics.

Speaking more about the single, MILA (Liam) said: “I wrote Queen of the Hive after watching five seasons of a show on Netflix in just one or two weeks.

“Looking back, I think I might have got a bit too obsessed with it all, but it was a good waste of some of the lockdown, and I suppose I gained a song out of it.

“The song is about overcoming boundaries which can get in the way of the end product or goal someone is trying to achieve; and ways to overcome them.”

Recording all of his music at home, Liam said he works on the beat first before adding lyrics to the tracks.

Liam added: “I got stuck with this track for a while as it wasn’t really materialising the way it was in my head so Gethin Pearson (Funeral For A Friend) stepped in and added some additional production and understood what I was going for (we communicated over WhatsApp so he had to deal with me humming 808 patterns into the voice notes of our chat).”

Last month MILA announced (September 14th) that he will embark on a February 2021 headline tour. The six-date run promises to be an explosive high energy display.
