Radio Silence mix classic punk lines with 60s surf and psychedelia
Born out of frustration and desire and a common goal to produce music that lets people turn their most abstract dreams into a reality, indie trio Radio Silence share debut cut ‘Crank Bugs’.
Hailing from Newcastle Upon Tyne and comprised of Jack Burlison (vocals/guitar), Robert Starling (bass) and Andrew McAskell (Drums), they mix a classic, passionate punk lines and tones with 60s surf and psychedelia and a wave of very modern anger and impatience with the routine and drone of life.
The debut single ‘Crank Bugs’ followed by ‘Heads Will Roll’ in a raucous style. The punk-like vocals punch through the Stiff Little Fingers-esque riffs and stomping drums of The Dammed. The single is about Jack’s trip to Belgium on a critter-infested camping holiday (if you can call it that based on his experience).
Speaking about the track, the band said: “’Crank Bugs’ was inspired by a camping trip our singer, Jack, took to Belgium.
“The cabin riddled with insects and his ever-growing hangover one morning took him to writing. ‘Crank bugs’ is actually a term used to describe an itching sensation felt by heavy drug abusers, especially those addicted to meth.
“The term was adopted by Jack to describe an alternate almost nightmare-ish comparison of bug bites and love bites of a woman companion, as well as the desire to escape an mundane normality.”
Radio Silence broke away from the constraints of other projects in 2019 and embraced their own unique ideas. Through an online advert, they met Jack and took on this combined idea.
