NOPRISM grip you with funk and new wave infused synth pop
Synth pop-ladened group NOPRISM released their debut single ‘Sphere’ last month with a sound you will not want to miss!
For any lover of good pop music this duo is centred around electronica-infused pop with influences of modern funk and 80s new wave. Trust me, the end result is a lot less hideous than that sounds!
They spent last year recording an album as a a bedroom project, but NOPRISM then evolved into a band to play live. It’s certainly been a rocky road to make their debut in the centre of a virus epidemic with debut shows scheduled for May etc, but they have plenty of music to share for everyone to get their ears gripped.
To start ‘Sphere’ is simply a good pop song that makes you want to dance. As you get to the midway point, a piano ballad breaks out with the vocals shining through like crystal. Along side this is a B-Side titled ‘Lisbon’; a darker song with post-rock guitars and bold atmospherics to spice up the song.
Coming from a background of noise-driven guitar bands, NOPRISM are a band of synth-laden, soulful pop songs harking longingly to the sounds of Prince, Talking Heads and Chaka Khan via the sounds of some of today’s modern experimentalists, such as Justice, Carpenter Brut and Todd Terje.
They have a couple more track to release in the coming months so stay tuned on ICM for the next single! In the meantime, have a listen to ‘Sphere’ below and please leave an ICM Rating out of 10.
