New Music Alert: Franklin – Skream

Franklin

With some brilliant singles released, their awesome EP Blueberry Sky, and gigs a plenty, including venues The Horn, Tooting Tram Social and Notting Hill Arts Club- not to mention a set on the BBC Introducing Stage at Wilkestock. It’s fair to say they’ve made some amazing progress, along with some amazing music.

Now onto their newest song: Skream. Skream is the new single released by Franklin. A brilliantly structured song, with a punchy bassline, a heavy employment of cymbals, light and airy lead all topped off by the smooth vocals of Alex Frankl. It’s near enough impossible to not bounce your head whilst listening to ‘Skream’.

Unlike some of Franklin’s other songs such as ‘Care 4 U’ and ‘Blind Love’, ‘Skream’ starts as it means to go on, with it’s spirited sound present from the get go, making this a song that you could easily bust a few funky moves to. All that said, it isn’t monotonous and does break the pace a few times, becoming just a bit less full on- something that highlights the rest of the song.

Being a St Albans expat, this excerpt from our interview with Franklin earlier this year was quite an eye opener, but I’m glad they’ve spread so far across the globe!

When asked about where their fans are from, they said;

“I wouldn’t say its local, if anything local is less of a scene for us. We think its because people who know who we are don’t think too much of it. Online our biggest stream is in LA, America. Loads more of our streams are abroad as well in Europe. When we play another gig after the other, we tend to have bigger groups of fans. And when we toured with The Hoosiers and The Pigeon Detectives it definitely wasn’t a local crowd at all.

“With all the growth that Franklin have had over the past 12 months, I wouldn’t expect them to be slowing down anytime soon. Hopefully they’ll be pushing out more great songs and performing some more of their brilliant live shows. I’ll definitely be keeping an ear out for these guys.”
