New Music Alert: New Carnival – ‘How Dare You’

New Carnival

This infectiously snappy pocket of sunshine called ‘How Dare You’ by New Carnival came as a refreshing shock to the system for me the first time I listened to it; the raspy vocals during the compelling a capella snippet found around the halfway mark of the song provides an addictive energy, full of passion and emotion that can’t be overlooked.

It’s evident that these lads aren’t short of song writing talent; though they’ve only released five tracks since 2015, don’t let that put you off adding New Carnival to your gig radar. Each of these tunes are a charismatic combination of captivating guitar shreds and punchy lyrics, crammed with highly scrutinized instrumentals and enchantingly harmonious indie vibes, profoundly similar to the likes of Sundara Karma and The Magic Gang .

This up-and-coming three piece from Bristol don’t waste time when it comes to exhibiting what this song has to offer; introducing the track is the gorgeously nasally buzz courtesy of Max Radford and his guitar riff, accompanied by resonating, tangy drumbeat from Bertie Crawley.

The sprightly tone is set early on through the euphonious vocals; harsh yet velvety-sounding is an unmissed trick that the lads have landed themselves with.

Building up vivacity through the progression of the song, you can’t help but picture the excited chaos New Carnival could stir up should they be offered to play any festivals this upcoming summer.

If there was any advocate for a cliff-hanger in a song, without a doubt this is it; the tantalising allure of this track is a toe-dip into the pool of what’s to come from the auspicious band we know as New Carnival. After all, ‘silence is a gift but not like this’.
