Nottingham based band Mowbeck are back with their moody new track ‘Crawl’. Since the band formed over three years ago they have gone on to play four headline shows across the country, taken to the stage at Reading and Leeds, had a BBC Introducing Track of the Week with ‘Basement’ and released their ‘Talkabout’ EP which was full of indie-rock hits.
Their latest song came about after the band had moved to London and ran out of money, meaning the song is self-recorded, produced, and mixed by Phil Clark, the band’s guitarist, an impressive feat which only deepens the meaning behind this track.
With lead singer Andy Thomas commenting that the song originates from an “angsty place” from “feeling let down by people in the music industry who had made this incredible feeling [he] had towards music seem naïve and immature”, this track is certainly one which is packed full of passion and resilience as it begins to step away from their typical indie-rock/pop vibe.
Perhaps one of the best things about this track is the fact it “seemed too dark to be considered in keeping with Mowbeck at first” as it shows the sheer talent and diversity that this band are capable of. This mellow new track has quickly become a personal favourite of mine with its hypnotic lyrics which have had me mesmerised since the moment I first heard it. A combination of very personal lyrics and gentle guitar undertones creates an intense and moving track which only adds to Mowbeck’s portfolio.
With impressive vocals and emotion-fuelled tracks, Mowbeck hold the potential to become something incredible within the music industry and are definitely ones to keep an eye on.
