From the era of Reverend and the Makers and Arctic Monkeys, Sheffield indie rockers Milburn showed a lot of promise with sell out gigs. However splitting in 2008 after Arctic Monkeys took off and their label expecting certain things from them, they decided that it was time to call it quits and pursue their own musical careers.
Now, after joining Twitter in December last year they were bombarded with messages almost every day asking if they were going to come back. Now a long eight years since their last live performance it’s great to see that they are back playing completely sold out venues once again, just goes to show that they haven’t been forgotten.
With The Sugarmill filled with middle-aged men with their Milburn football shirt merch chanting ‘Milburn’ as loud as they can waiting for them to come out on stage.
With the old classics getting the crowd going including ‘Well Well Well’ and ‘Send In The Boys’ got everybody in one mental mosh pit, it was so huge that you had to be careful once at the bar in case your pint spilt down you. Just like some poor bloke did, he literally just brought a pint then, the crowd started to sway towards the bar then half of it spilt right down his front. We had a laugh about it as he was standing right next to me then decided to get another pint, complete legend.
The balcony was even having a little mosh pit of their own was great to see as the balcony isn’t usually open. Overall to some this gig up was bloody brilliant, I find it really hard to believe that these guys couldn’t reach the top of the stairs.
