Liverpool newcomer Toy Car delivers ‘refreshingly retro’ brit-pop

Combining warmth and melody into jangly, sunkissed brit-pop, Liverpool newcomer Toy Car could just be your new favourite artist.

Toy Car is the alias of Liverpudlian singer/songwriter Shaun Hough, who has previously been part of other musical projects including Tiger Twins, is now two singles into his new project.

The latest, titled ‘New’, is three and half minutes of glorious Oasis and Supergrass-esque brit-pop as Hough perfectly balanced the recognisable sound of the 90s.

“Sometimes life can be difficult,” explains Hough. “I wanted to convey the message that talking to a friendly voice and delving into their world for a few minutes can change your perspective. Giving new ideas a chance instead of old ideologies and evolving as a person.

“I wanted to show in the harmony and the overall energy in the track changing to show the change in perspective, I thought it was fitting to call it ‘New’ as you can literally hear the song blossom.”

Following up on debut single ‘Somewhere In Between’, Toy Car is on the verge of releasing his debut EP, with one more single to go.

This is the sound of an artist coming into their own, and finding further confidence with each release. Find Toy Car on Facebook and Instagram.
