Remember this name Jack Frohlich because his infectious melodic indie rock is here to stay.
Releasing his second single ‘School Boy’ ahead of his upcoming EP Silver Going Grey, the Birmingham musician incorporates smooth melodic rock with his admiration for jazz theory.
Laced with odes to nostalgia, Frohlich’s music explodes in playful soundscapes but it is in the rhythmic lyrical storytelling does the young artist really come into his own.
He has really developed his own original and distinctive sound which, impressively, doesn’t come with a huge amount of comparison to other artists on the scene.
Whilst inspired by the likes of Oscar Lang, Declan McKenna and The Magic Gang, he takes on elements of these artists but cultivates his own sound well.
‘School Boy’ doesn’t mess about as Jack kicks off the luscious guitar flicks and captivating vocals take hold. It’s a fun and upbeat number with hooks galore and blissful drumming patterns that emphasize the track’s care-free attitude. You’ll be humming the beat, and lyrics, for days to come.
In line with the theme of the ‘Silver Going Grey’ EP, ‘School Boy’ discusses the difficulties encountered growing up. From reminiscing on finding his true self as “just a school boy looking for answers”, Jack considers how the school environment impeded this process. It’s a theme that we can all relate to but in the sounds of Frohlich, we’re not met with an angsty teenage anthem but instead a complex yet meaningful, captivating tune.
Jack Frohlich has a promising future ahead of him and we’ll certainly be waiting on what jazz-inspired, smooth and sophisticated story he will lovingly illustrate for us next.
