The Time Sellers

An Introduction To The Time Sellers

New band, The Time Sellers, have been creating quite a stir recently, so we decided to have a chat with the band to get to know them more!

Tell us about your aims when creating music, and where does that aim stem from?

Adam: We want to progress musically song by song. We try to make our music as original as possible.

James: We like to add social commentary to the songs as well so it is relatable to our audience.

What was the catalyst for picking up instruments and wanting to start a band?

Adam: I got a guitar when I was about ten or eleven, which I didn’t really play at that time. A few years later me and Jimmy got the game “The Beatles Rock Band” and we were hooked. Soon after I decided I actually wanted to play an instrument so I got that guitar back out and actually started to take it serious.

James: Being brought up on bands such as The Who, The Specials, The Beatles made me want to pick up an instrument and change this X-Factor generation.

We’re you very influential to music when growing up or did you establish your own musical preferences?

Adam: Our dads (Me and James) brought us up on a lot of different types of music, mainly bands such as The Chords, The Action, Ocean Colour Scene, The Prisoners and many more so it has always been there in our lives.

Tell us about what it was like when you first started writing?

James: Writing my first song was difficult as I was only around 12 years old.

What’s the music scene like in your hometowns at the moment? Any band recommendations?

Adam: Just recently a great new venue has opened called “The Avenue” but before that there wasn’t really anything indie wise.

James: The music scene in Chesterfield is just starting to pick up with the opening of The Avenue, this is great to see.

What and who influences you musically?

James: The Pixies, The Jam, Small Faces, The Beatles and many more.

Describe your song-writing process?

James: Get a riff/chords
Make a melody
Fix the structure
Write the lyrics

What was it like recording your track, ‘Down Here’?

Adam: It’s always exciting to be in the studio recording tracks, I did have a bad cold that day though.

Although you are in a band, do you still have to work day jobs in-between live shows?

Adam: All the money we currently earn goes towards our practice room and other things we need to keep the band running. At the moment I’m doing part time work at The Leadmill as one of the bar staff.

James: I work on site doing construction with a relative.

How would you like people to respond to your music? Do you wish to connect emotionally with the audience or is it just about having a party?

Adam: We just want people to have a good time and feel like they’re part of something.

James: I just want people to have a good time and forget about their day jobs/education and to enjoy the moment.

Do you ever see your sound changing from the type of indie you write?

James: with the introduction of new guitar pedals and new experiences to write about, Our style of writing is forever changing.

Do you ever see The Time Sellers expanding with more members?

James: Jazz Quartet is on the cards.
