IndieCentralMusic Sound Of 2016 Part 2

Over the last year, music has seen its ups and downs including the legend David Bowie, but now we turn our attention to music’s greatest achievements from the industry in our Sound Of 2016. So without further ado, here is our final five artists;

INHEAVEN

Sound Of 2016

We can’t stop talking about INHEAVEN, but then why shouldn’t we if they keep hitting the nail on the head. With support tours with The Hunna and currently on tour with Blossoms and are going to tour with Circa Waves in the spring (not to mention they will be on tour themselves in February.) They just keep on getting noticed BBC Radio 1 and various indie music websites have been promoting the bands special talents. ‘All There Is’ and new single ‘Treats’ have shown to the world that hardcore indie rock is as big as it ever was before.

WHITE

WhiteAfter a long stem of single WHITE have released their debut EP last month. The Glasgow five-piece when to almost every festival going over the summer, hooking fans instantly they carried on their festival success into September at Underground Festival. EP, ‘Cuts That Don’t Bleed’ was released last month and has picked up a steady flow of positive reviews.

Black Honey

Black Honey

A band that has rocked their way through 2016 is Black Honey. The Brighton quartet supported Catfish and the Bottleman in the spring and released their debut EP, Headspin shortly after.

We believe that Black Honey are ready to smash their way through the ranks with 2017 to be their best year yet. Confirming that they are recording some new tunes through the Christmas period that could be the sign for a debut album.

Spring King

Sound Of 2016

Indie rock quartet Sping King formed two years ago but didn’t take off until the release of their debut EP ‘They’re Coming After You’ which included their hit track ‘City’, which was closely followed by their flagship track ‘Who Are You?’.

With the release of their debut album ‘Tell Me If You Like To’ taking off like a rocket the band’s quick success comes with a little fame such as an appearance on BBC2’s Later… With Jools Holland alongside Elton John, who personally requested a copy of their album.

Spring King recently announced they are to go on a huge support tour with Cage The Elephant from January to March stopping off at a couple of dates that they missed last time round, due to illness. Which is great news for us as we get to see them finally!

Viola Beach

Finally, Sound Of 2016 one of music’s greatest tragedies was four-piece indie rock band, Viola Beach and their manager Criag Tarry in February when their car crashed into Södertälje Canal, Sweden.

Kris Leonard, 19 – (guitar, lead vocal), River Reeves, 19 – (guitar), Tomas Lowe, 27 – (bass) and Jack Dakin, 19 – drums from Warrington from Warrington, Cheshire. Formed in May 2015 and were tipped by us, and the BBC and Radio X to be the next big thing in the indie rock scene.

Viola Beach’s ‘Swings & Waterslides’ reached number 11 in the charts and their track ‘Boys That Sing’, which was released just two weeks before their death was performed by Coldplay in a tribute at Glastonbury Festival.

Tragically they were not around to see their self-titled debut album reach Number 1 in the UK charts. Such a shame. RIP.
