Hottest Gigs 23/10/18

This week we’ve got some spooky shows lined up for you including one Pokémon Halloween special, some unconventional indie rockers and a couple of cheeky bops that are sure to get you hyped for the weekend.

Tuesday 23rd of October
Leeds Town Hall, Leeds

If you feel like spending your Tuesday evening ensnared by some captivating experimental rock, then you need to get yourself down to Leeds Town hall to feast your eyes on the spectacle that is Alt-J.

Having formed in Leeds whilst at university, the band return to their roots by performing in the city in which they were conceived.

I always say that home shows are the best for getting introduced to bands/ getting to see them perform in their element. There’s truly nothing like it.

Fickle Friends
Wednesday 24th of October
The Garage, Glasgow

Another band that found themselves whilst at uni (albeit separate ones) are everyone’s favourite fun-loving indie bubble-gum pop five-piece, Fickle Friends.

With sugar coated hits sweet enough to give you a cavity, the Brighton boppers are a sure to get you moving more than an arcade dance game.

If you’re looking for energetic and upbeat jams, then look no further than Fickle Friends at The Garage this Tuesday.

Bad Sounds
Thursday 25th of October
Heaven, London

Far from what the name would suggest, the multi genre wrangling five piece are truly pioneers in their field.

Mixing a plethora of different influences together, Bad Sounds manage to have just a little something for everyone.
With eclectic and ranged influences coming in their abundance from the likes of: Beck, Gorillaz, The Flaming Lips and the late great, Michael Jackson, it’s not hard to work out how their individual sound appeals to so many varied audiences all at the same time.

Giant party
Friday 26th of October
Broadcast, Glasgow.

Potty mouthed lyrics dripping with funk in abundance. Giant Party have quickly caught my attention as one of the most interesting acts I’ve heard in recent memory.

Reminiscent of night drives in some rugged and warped dystopian future.

Bizarre and unconventional in their sound, you wouldn’t typically expect the separate elements that make up Giant party to work together, but somehow, they work in perfect unison going as far as being complimentary.

This is 100% the next band that you should be obsessed with!

Monday 29th of October
YES (The Pink Room), Manchester

Every time I reference these guys, I have to double check that I’ve not called them by their Pokémon counterpart.

That aside, if you feel like a spooky night filled with some absolute jams, then there’s nowhere else for you to be next Monday than YES in Manchester.

As a pre-Halloween show, you can be sure that Gengahr have some ghoulish tricks and treats up their sleeves already planned for this show.

Perhaps instead of being delivered to the floor in cardboard boxes, maybe they’ll rise out of a massive cauldron or fly in on brooms during ‘She’s a witch’. Who knows? The only way to find out is to make sure you’re at the show ready and waiting to get spooked.

And there we have it. This week’s hottest gigs topped off with a Spooktacular pre-Halloween special. Find out what ghoulish gigs are in store next week when Halloween finally rolls in along with the Autumn leaves.

It’ll be lit as a carved pumpkin, so you’d be an absolute fool to miss it!
