Grimsby quartet Mint release energising rock single ‘River to The Sea’

Energising rock ‘n’ rollers Mint have dropped gut-busting new single ‘River to The Sea’.

The Grimsby quartet, fronted by Zaki Rashid who is of Palestinian heritage, have released the single as a commentary on his Grandparents experience of the “Nakba” (which translates to “catastrophe”).

The Nakba is a stapled part of Palestinian history after an estimated 750,000 Palestinians were forcibly removed from their homes and villages. Zak and his family in Palestine have been touching base more than usual since October 2023 and have been brainstorming ways to raise funds and awareness for the struggling people of Gaza.

Zak had written the lyrics out after he saw a particularly heavy video via TikTok to which Danny (Bass) and Lenny (Lead Guitar) came together to finish the track which was then recorded with Sugar House Producers.

The cover art to the single is an illustration from an artist formerly known as “KR1ME”. It depicts a tribute to a gentleman in the US military called Aaron Bushnell who engaged himself in what he called “an extreme act of protest” by setting himself on fire. He later died in critical care and will be remembered as a hero and an icon for protesting the occupation of Palestine.

The tragic news of David Bowie’s death, so soon after the release of his (as always) exceptional new album release, hit so many of us like a train.

Listen: Dave Wave

Day Wave, a Californian-based musician named Jackson Phillips, is yet to play a live show. But with the release of his EP in early 2015, “Nothing At All” and “Total Zombie” shimmers with an optimistic, upbeat arrangement with lo-fi instrumentation that carries Jackson Phillips’ relaxed vocals in a positive direction. Despite Phillips’ lyrical self-doubt, “Nothing At All” introduces Day Wave as a project that with bristles with promise, a spark, with youthful approach to not being 100% sure of yourself or your direction. Here’s to keeping our ears peeled for the next single.
