The Belgrave Music Hall in the heart of Leeds opened its doors last Friday to some of the best bands that Yorkshire has to offer. With one of this years most underrated bands headlining and teamed with Scruff of the Neck, this sold out show offered a truly incredible experience for the gig-goers.
Hosting 4 bands across the evening, the Belgrave Music Hall welcomed the edgy and attitude filled Sounds Like A Storm, The 1975 styled Victors with their heavy synth orientation, Glass Caves with their booming stadium vocals and The Chessmen also performed throughout the night.
Sounds Like A Storm
Kicking the night off was the youngsters that are redefining the rules on age. Scruff of the Neck put the little scruffs that are, Sounds Like A Storm, on stage and they had the perfect entrance to their set that set up the evening ahead. Drummer, bassist, guitarist and lastly lead vocalist all joining together to create a deep and ruggedly-edged sound bellowing through Belgrave.
You would assume that a live band’s only worry, is to worry about having a great sound. With no discredit to Sounds Like A Storm’s sound which is astounding for their age. The true genius behind this band is their knowledge of stage presence and attitude towards a crowd.
Sounds Like A Storm’s debut EP, ‘Yellow Lines’, is due to be released early 2017.
The Chessmen
Second on stage was local lads, The Chessmen. Unlike Sounds Like A Storm, I failed to see the stage presence and band ethic behind them. It was a shame for me as I was able to see their great musicianship and cannot discredit their ability to play an instrument although unfortunately I would be lying if I didn’t mention the fact that I was feeling uncomfortable during their performance.
Victors
Bringing the night back round for me was indie-pop 4-piece Victors who instantly had my attention with their synth-based and electronic vibe with a twist of indie influences. Being understanding to the indie-pop genre and appreciating it’s beauty’s which some may find dull and simple, I did enjoy their set and felt like they did take the night up that extra notch needed before Glass Caves. They introduced a party within Belgrave and got the groove going to the sold out venue.
Victors have an EP release coming up towards the end of the year and I strongly recommend checking them out her Facebook. I am pleased to announce that they are firmly placed on our radar.
Glass Caves
To finish of the night was the underrated and hard working Glass Caves. Yorkshire guys who are slowly creeping up the ranks gaining new fans by the second. They definitely stole the show and all of those in the crowd who were holding back for the headline definitely shook themselves off and got stuck in.
Glass Caves’ set featured a well thought production aspect, smoke machines and lighting set the mood between each song. With the tall, long haired lead vocalist in his knee length trench coat letting out vocals so empowering to the point where I felt enlightened by their performance, it was very easy to see the talent and limitless potential that Glass Caves have available.
With a second album on the way i’m excited to see Glass Caves continue and I would love to see them take the music industry by storm.
