When Tame Impala meets the west coast of America you get Josh Herren, aka Galaxy Shores.
The Los Angeles-based songwriter, producer and muti-instrumentalist brings out the bright side of psychedelic rock as his new single ‘Sphallolalia’ is a dreamy fuzzball.
Since taking the dive into his music career during quarantine in 2020, Josh created Galaxy Shores to follow his passion for music from a young age. He began to write down lyrics as they came to him, taught himself how to use Ableton and track all the instruments.
The track’s bouncy bass, washed-out guitars and striking synths are perfectly combined to create a powerful psych anthem with hints of classic rock influences.
‘Sphallolalia’ is now Josh’s third release which is centred on the inability to have casual encounters with girls.
Speaking further on the track, Josh said: “There’s one specific experience that inspired the song, but it’s just another story in a common theme.
“The Lyrics reflect the desire to stave off the inevitable feelings that arise by just pretending it’s real in the moment, then moving on. ‘Soon you’ll see this isn’t for me / I play along then the feelings come strong so I have to move on / But maybe it’s real while we’re here, maybe we’re in love for fun, believe me I know, you’ll never be mine, we’re both on borrowed time.’”
Galaxy Shores is now in the process of collaborating with friends and other artists; Sam Denton and Michael Girgis. He is also in the final stages of producing his own debut EP.
