Irish alt-rock quartet, Funeral Suits give us one last masterpiece before leaving us for good.
The band formed in Dublin in 2009, and released their debut album “Lily Of The Valley” in 2012. Brian James, Mik McKeogh, Greg McCarthy and Darragh Grant have achieved their dream of becoming successful as a band giving us ‘Lily Of The Valley’ in 2012 and now ‘Islands Apart’ on Friday (Nov 25th).
Their EP in the Summer shared four songs off the album like ‘Tree Of Life’ and ‘Crowded Out’ every song is airy, with spacious vocals. ‘Tree of Life’ is charismatic and tribal-sounding in its mesmerising power, treading a fine line between electro-pop experimentalism and immediate hooks. In its core, the track is bursting with determination and armed to the teeth with infectious moments throughout. With experimental pop from Animal Collective are unavoidable, but as the track progresses the group shows their own approach very powerfully and thoughtfully.
Musically, it literally sounds like an island – tropical advances, energetic synthesizers, purifying vocals, and joyful builds. It’s unfortunate that this is the last we’ll hear from the band, but at least they’re leaving us with their most triumphant piece of work to date.
Funeral Suits first made their prominent mark in music by creating ‘All Those Friendly People’ it is their most popular song by far and I have to admit that it was the first song I ever heard. A bizarre music video and exuberant, pop infused guitar riffs got me, and clearly a lot of other people hooked at first sight, and I would say was their best piece of creative talent.
Purchase their last goodbye here!
The band also had this message; “The release of ISLANDS APART will be our final act as Funeral Suits.
“The last few weeks have been strange. Realizing that we couldn’t continue, but ensuring we delivered the record to you, it’s a weird place to be. We desperately wanted to get this out into the world. So happy, that our last offering as a band is a positive one.
“There are many reasons why we have made this decision and most are too long and boring to go into now, but rest assured it wasn’t a decision we have taken lightly. We are all very much still great friends and we will continue to make music in our own rights in time.
“Funeral Suits has, and always will be so special to us and from the bottom of our hearts we would like to say thank you. Thank you to anyone who came to see us, thank you to anyone who wore a tee shirt, thank you to anyone who listened to our music, thank you to anyone we met on our travels, thank you to anyone who gave a shit about what we did.”
