There’s a new kid on the block in Essex looking to make amends after the band he was split up during the pandemic.
MMIV is the project of songwriter Max Rawdon, who has been putting all of his energy into making the best record he possibly could. And for the result? Well, the debut single ‘The Drugs Are Running Out’ is a groovy, earworm-y slice of indie-pop that oozes the love of artists such as LCD Soundsystem, Talking Heads, The 1975, and Phoebe Bridgers.
An ode to turning 22 – and knowing that work is always there in the morning – MMIV talks about friends entering therapy, moving away from home, and the creeping awareness that youth won’t last forever.
‘The Drugs Are Running’ Out chronicles the moment that the party is peaking, but also, unfortunately, about to end. Produced by George Murphy (Drug Store Romeos, The Specials, The Coronas), MMIV take influence from LCD Soundsystem, 80s pop, and Gen X singer-songwriters to forge a debut that leaves you wondering what’s next.
