“THE REVOLUTION WILL NOT BE DIGITAL”
Rising from the ‘dying art form’ – something quirky that only the most elite indie kids could get their hands on – to outselling digital downloads for the first time ever: vinyl has made a bigger comeback than 2004 Green Day.
How better to celebrate this, and kick off the festival season, than with a festival that is all about those weird plastic discs that everyone has gone a little mad for.
Last year’s Flying Vinyl saw performances from the likes of Juice; a grimy four piece from Birmingham, and a fittingly bizarre set by the summery-psychedelic Asylums.
2017’s headline act’s have the plushy sounds of Black Honey and Swim Deep completely revamped by the murky vibes of The Wytches, and high octane, clean-sounding Spring King.
For those who aren’t such big fans of the dark, tarnished tracks of The Wytches; the two headliners will be joined by Anteros; a glittery group of Londoners, and the muggy sound of Palm Honey, for some easy-listening relief.
Hidden Charms and yassassins seem set to bring a bluesy feel to the line up. Equally, dream Wife and Willie J healy with that lethargic summer haze, the rest of the festival to be filled with the likes of Trudy and the Romance and Traams.
This year’s Flying Vinyl headliners are such a stark contrast to last, it’s nice to see the celebration of new indie sounds, and not just squeezing the same old music out dry.
As always a small lineup, but a lot to get to know. Refreshingly, this year features more female band-members and acts than any other festival lineup – something that has been seriously lacking support within the alternative music scene.
Possibly the most honest festival out there; looking forward to kicking off the festival season with High Flying Vinyl again this April. Visit Flying Vinyls website for tickets.
