Fast Trains produces energising alt rock with a folk twist

Producing energising alt rock with tinges of folk and warm vocal harmonies, musician Tom Wells aka Fast Trains is preparing to release his debut album ‘Escape to ourWorld’.

The Portsmouth-born artist release new single ‘The Minstrels Gallery’, where Tom takes a takes a bite at the current state of the music industry, where musicians are expected to remain positive about a system that continually decreases the value of their art.

Pulling out the lyrics “Take a seat the show is starting. A human play, where all the rich folk steal and run away. The impression of a party. Us minstrels play, while your chance of escape is sold and washed away.” The song has a playful yet forceful feel as the meaning of the song is put to the front of your mind.

Fast Trains combined forces with esteemed folk rock frontman Olly Knights (Turin Brakes) for the single after touring together earlier in the year. Knight’s recognisable vocal presence adds a new layer to ‘The Minstrels Gallery’ entourage of fuzzy guitars and crashing drums.

The title for the song comes from a type of balcony which can be found in the great halls of historic manor houses, where musicians would gather to perform whilst being hidden from the guests they were entertained below.

Tom uses this as a metaphor for musicians being ‘heard but not seen’, and offers a deeper meaning to his music. The listener enjoying the art should taking notice of those that are creating it.
