The Sherlocks

Exclusive Interview – The Sherlocks

Being a Northern band, The Sherlocks have built up an extortionate amount of fans across Yorkshire. However, straight out of a summer-long of festivals, they headed out into their biggest ever headline tour. Venturing out to venues down South and releasing their latest single ‘Will You Be There’. We went to The Sugarmill in Stoke-on-Trent to see how it all was getting along.

You’re making a huge following for live events, Sherlock army. Was that planned or just happened?

The chant started off when we weren’t even doing our own music. We started in pubs and WMC and a close friend from the very beginning just made it up and it’s stuck. We will definitely keep it though; I don’t think we will ever get rid of it. We walk on to it and also we chuck it in in-between songs every now and then too. Online we get a good following from ‘Sherlock Army’ as well, it really psych’s us all up. The Sherlocks

The tour is nearly over. Only 2 more dates and then a festival appearance. How has it been overall?

This is the best tour that we’ve ever done, we have a much better sound, the production stage is a lot better with the lighting. Also we can venture down south more. We are a northern band so obviously we created a following up north and now down south is really getting on board with our music. They are not as reserved anymore and it seems like everyone is up for a party.

You said online that your recent O2 Ritz Manchester gig was ‘literally your best ever gig’. Can you explain it all to us step by step?

We’ve only done about 5 shows in Manchester and we only have 5 singles out. We started with a gig which was about 100 capacity and our 4th show had about 500 capacity. But the O2 Ritz is about 3 times the size. The atmosphere was incredibly. We knew it was going to be a gig from near enough the beginning and we could hear the crowd going nuts just before we went on. When the staff said, ‘Ok we’re going to hand your starting CD to the sound guy’, we got that real buzz!

screen-shot-2016-09-20-at-11-44-45‘Will you be there’ has now been released on Spotify. But album-wise, when will we see one?

There is no official plans for an album, we haven’t even started recording for an album. There definitely will be plans, we are sure we will definitely release an album, but we just don’t know where, when or how.

Would You Rather – add an extra 3 dates to your tour or have your song added to BBC Radio 1 A-List?

Straight A-List. We will for sure gig again.

Would You Rather – perform at every gig you’re at as The Sherlocks or would you prefer to be in the crowd sometimes watching another band?

To be honest I don’t really like watching other bands so I’d say performing. It would be cool to watch ourselves perform though. Like be in the crowd but watch ourselves performing would be really cool.

say you release an album or EP and it costs the same as a ticket to one of your gigs. Would You Rather – sell 1000 tickets to a gig or 1000 EP’s/albums?

Albums, because that way they will come to the gig after they’ve listened to the album. I’d like to think we will sell way more than a 1000!

You as a band, The Sherlocks, are still not signed right? Do you want to be signed?
Will it help or not?

No… We’re just happy. We are enjoying what we’re doing. We have a fantastic team and are in a healthy position. There are so many benefits to being in a record deal. We wouldn’t release an album without a signing because their PR is a lot better than what we can do on a laptop. The Sherlocks

So you have said you won’t release an album until there is a record deal, does that mean that there is a record deal in sight?

Um… The wheel is turning. There isn’t much we can say about the matter. But speaking metaphorically, the ball is rolling. We’ll leave it there.
