Arcadian: the unsigned BBC Introducing indie rock quintet, from Hertfordshire. The band members are Joe Campbell, Will Stephen, Greg Moseley, Phil Rejahl and Tom Szczech.
I spent a good hour becoming increasingly pissed off at my laptop as I attempted to listen to the tracks; at this point, I was really hoping the EP was going to be somewhat tolerable to make the hassle worthwhile but boy was I wrong. If I had to sum the EP up in two words it would be ‘utterly incredible’. If anything, the debut EP from these lads deserves to be longer, maybe even album length.
From the offset, you’ve got a storm of beautiful classic indie rock which permeates the record in its entirety. ‘Lion’s Heart’ initiates the EP; it’s a proper proud and hearty English track at its core – as the title suggests – the type that can only be played at the volume with the capacity to abolish eardrums. It’s bursting full of vigorous catfish-esque riffs with wholesome vocals thrown on top; the sort of thing you can envision Leeds fans jumping around to in raucous crowds.
The lads continue the craziness with track numéro deux titled ‘Subtlety’ and trust me, it’s anything but subtle. The extremely familiar sounding track commences with a somewhat more pop-like opening but this quickly blossoms into the same lively style as its predecessive track. The authenticity of the track is pure with the slight dialogue featured at the end, the track as a whole appears to be about the subtlety of actions i.e. not having your hand clenched in a fist when getting into altercations over some gal.
The highly recommended EP is polished off with the track ‘Fashion Statement’; the most distant sounding track of the three in my opinion, However, the pleasurable indie rock guitar riffs and drums are still present and it’s apparent that there’s a girl featured again – the same girl as the previous track perhaps?
Arcadian concludes the EP with a huge finish of exhilarating and powerful indie rock. It is transparently clear that they’ve firmly solidified themselves as an indie rock band with this debut EP.
To sum it all up, Arcadian are full of energetic riffs and festival ready sounds. The EP ‘This Is Not Ultraviolet’ will be rocking its way to your ears on July 30th – I would unquestionably advise buying it! Have a listen to the EP below!
