Einsam debuts his meaningful, ever-changing indie pop sound

Since spending some time in Europe, Bristol musician Einsam is back in his home city with an abundance of indie pop songs.

All written and recorded in the beautiful city of Vienna where he was staying from 2016-2020, Einsam was heavily influenced by the ever-changing politics in both countries.

What’s also quite fitting is his name. The word in German means ‘Onesome’ and when your name is Sam – it’s quite a natural fit! Alongside the themes of connection to and disconnection from people, places and language – Einsam was born.

His debut single ‘Pressing Matters’, which was released in October 2020, is about the “importance of touch and pressure” says Sam. Second single ‘Stuck Pig’ focuses on Bristol’s trip-hop heritage giving the track a downtempo hip-hop/electronica feel.

All about inner and outer divisions, ‘Stuck Pig’ was shaped by the effects of changing politics and rising intolerance alongside the push and pull of the new city and his homeland.

Einsam commented: “Set watching the steady collapse of an island and its ideals from over on the mainland, with a mirrored inner turmoil, the overriding feeling was one of mounting pressure.

“The summers in Vienna were humid and sticky, punctuated by heavy thunderstorms.

“I was caught there, a bit lost trying to make a new home and still being rooted to England, and at one point all I could see on either side was division.”

This collection of songs were first written and recorded in Vienna and on return to England further developed and re-recorded with producer Adam ‘Cecil’ Bartlett (PJ Harvey, Ed O’Brien, Jehnny Beth) in his studio El Chiringuito in London.
