Discover: Fil Bo Riva – If You’re Right, It’s Alright

Fil Bo Riva

Imagine it’s a race between classic genres, like… 21st century blues Vs folk/soul. Now remember three years ago when 21st century blues spat out Hozier? Well, 21st century folk/soul has a contender in the race; Fil Bo Riva.

Their second single ‘Like Eye Did’ is contemplative and forceful. Fil Bo Riva’s gravel tone voice smashed against a contrasting almost smooth classical riff depicts gloom; intensity flows from the speakers as you listen. The delivery too contrasts, at times a howl and others a soft swoop. Their music creates an atmosphere of angst and uncertainty. To be able to convey such dejection is astounding; this effect is ‘the result of a twisted mind and a beating loving heart’ he explains.

“If You’re Right, It’s Alright” was released this summer and consists of 5 tantalising pieces of art. “Killer Queen”, the fourth track on the EP identifies with anybody who has ever felt alienated and disjointed with the female population due to indifference. Cheerful right? These songs run along a narrative depicting Fil Bo Riva’s journey; Berlin via Dublin via Rome, combining a plethora of themes that act as the framework. This is music with substance, both thought provoking and inward looking.

Fil Bo Riva’s touring schedule is hectic. Playing nine shows in the nine days he’s in the UK. If you want real music, go see him, failing that go check out his FacebookSoundcloud and on their Website.
