Rose Dive hail from Esher and play indie pop which offers something refreshing. Inspired by artists including Alvvays and Two Door Cinema Club, they channel a carefree vibe into their music, mixing ethereal vocals and crashing drums to create a summery wall of sound.
The bands’ creative process stems from an idea conceived by singer Freya McKee, then after heading into the studio they colour it in, adding different elements. This is a perfect way to describe their sound, the cheerful melodic guitar leads make you smile and leave you wanting more. The tracks they’ve released, ‘Distant Days’ and ‘Sixteen’ demonstrate their obvious potential and talent.
Both tracks were recorded in Esher College studio where the band formed, and they are immaculately produced, with easily hummable hooks. ‘Distant Days’ is about a messy relationship, with the protagonist describing her ex as “nothing more than a hopeless mess.” The upbeat backdrop works perfectly along with the creative drumming; creating a juxtaposition that demonstrates the strong quality of musicianship on show. ‘Sixteen’ features an infectious guitar riff that dominates the track. It’s got strong indie vibes throughout, while the reverb on the vocals gives it a slight shoegaze feel.
Rose Dive are a band brimming with promise, their chilled out demeanour and swooning melodies will worm their way into indie music lovers’ hearts this year.
