Hailing from the south coast, newcomers Darling Darling has today revealed their debut single ‘Paint it Sister’.
Honing in on 70s Hollywood and 50s French horror, the band are drenched in 60s psych bonanza that is as earnest as it is sinister.
Beginning at an almost feral pace, ‘Paint it Sister’ could be mistaken for a soundtrack from a country or western movie. It’s menacing organs are perfectly orchestrated by the lunar experience, before a howling guitar solo and poetic lyricism takes centre stage.
With their earnest-cum-sardonic observations of our lives, Darling Darling re-decorates them for a spectacle of his own design.
“I’m a whore for the spectacle” admits singer Matt Bisgrove. “I absolutely love taking something mundane and dressing it up as something far more contextually interesting.
“That’s why my work carries a certain concept about it: with ‘Paint it Sister’ it’s more about stripping away these delusions of grandeur and seeing things how they truly are – especially at night where there’s no light to shine.”
Along with this release, the Southampton-based band have a music video to accompany it. Directed by artist Beth Newman-Moseley, it puts ‘Paint it Sister’ with contextual puzzles.
With that, live shows and over 100 songs are waiting in the wings, it won’t be long until Darling Darling’s intentions become clear, but for now enjoy this debut offering; it’s the perfect appetiser for what’s to come.
