Castle Pines – Conversational lyrical narratives

Castle Pines, a four-piece Alternative Rock Outfit from Corona, CA are made up of dedicated and charismatic members include Leandro Barrientos (vocalist) and Ricky Garvey (lead guitarist), Sterling Fairfield (percussionist) and Jesse Briseno (bassist).

If you aren’t familiar with their work, I suggest you become familiar. Leandro, Ricky, Sterling and Jesse create music with emotive passion and frantic sensibilities. One of their most recent tracks, ‘Woo Hoo’, is one hell of a journey. Not the sort of fast-paced journey resembling a holiday, but more the part where you’re sat in the back seat of a car gazing out the window watching the world go by. The time when you are just daydreaming lost in thought. The lyrics put you in the same state of mind. It’s very hard to not relate to ‘Woo Hoo’.

The whole song itself is a measurement, it’s highlighting all these issues that could be detrimental to an individual, but instead, it flips it all on its head. Life is a tricky subject to sing about, especially with all its complexities. So when crafting a song about its complexities what on earth do you call it?

“The song title was a topic of discussion for the band, it was something we milled over and thought about, and in the end, we went with the most unassuming and non-explanatory lyric in the song “Woo Hoo” almost going in grain with the nonsensical logic of life.” – Leandro Barrientos (vocalist).

Since ‘Woo Hoo’ they’ve released a more anthemic rendition called ‘Scenester’ but still at times incorporates that interesting lyrical narrative style.
