CloseUp Festival exclusive with Jerry Williams

Female singer and songwriter Jerry Williams is to take the headline slot on the stripped back stage at CloseUp Promotions Festival in May. Her latest EP ‘Let’s Just Forget It’, which recently won Best Produced EP at the 2016 Unsigned Music Awards, features five stunning indie pop tracks including Jerry’s his single ‘Mother’.

The 21-year-old from Portsmouth spoke to us about her excitement for the festival, who else should you see and her plans in the coming months.

How does it feel to be headlining the stripped back stage at CloseUp Festival in London next month?
Really exciting! It feels cool to be headlining as well. I’m used to playing with a band, so I’m looking forward to stripping it back to basics. I’m buzzing to see all the other artists as well like Marsicans and Jakl.

How would you like people to respond to your music? Do you wish to connect emotionally with the audience or is it just about having a good time?
A mix between the two would be the dream! I love listening to music that really makes me feel something, so I love my songs to have that real life, conversational element. I hope people go away feeling something!

You have played all over the place, as a singer/songwriter can you describe the differences between playing a festival and a headline show in a music venue?
I suppose if you’re playing a headline show, most people there already know who you are, so you kinda know where you stand. When it’s a festival crowd, it’s a great way to showcase yourself and your music and draw new people in. Everyone’s in a festival mood which is lovely. I love bouncing off the audience.

What was it like to complete a studio broadcast at the iconic Abbey Road Studios?
It was DREAMY! I felt so lucky to be there. I got to see one of the main studio rooms which was really cool. I felt a bit star struck by the place!

Who else would you recommend to see at CloseUp Festival?
Marsicans! I love their music – so so good.

Finally, what can we see from you in the coming months?
I’m just about to start recording new music, which is so exciting. I can’t wait for people to hear what I’ve been working on!

Jerry Williams will headline the stripped back stage at Hoxton Square Bar & Kitchen on May 13th. Buy tickets via TicketWeb here and watch her video for ‘I’m Not In Love With You’ below.
