CLOSEUP Artist Spotlight: The New Coast
This week’s Artist Spotlight from CLOSEUP Promotions is The New Coast with East London’s finest alt pop duo who are preparing for a huge headline show at Camden Assembly on Friday (November 27th).
Nick, Chris it’s great to have a chat! We love your music as you well know. In the next few weeks you take on one a huge London headline show, what should we expect!?!
New music, a bunch of it. But of course the Paraga Beach EP as well. We feel like this show is taking us into a new chapter as a band and it feels so good. I think live is where we thrive (pardon the rhyme) so we’re ready for this next era.
Your aesthetic and music is all very cinema-centric, can you let us know a little bit more about how this has inspired your creativity when it comes to The New Coast?
It was something we’d always been interested in growing up together. Sounds funny, but we’d always comment on film scores and imagery more than music that we liked. I think it’s been such a good basis for making infectious music/songwriting though, as film and music have always married so well. In our eyes anyway haha.
Your tunes have been listened to hundreds of thousands of times across the world as Spotify informs us, Spotify is now such a big player in the industry, how important do you think it is for acts?
It’s mad when you say it like that…It’s always an exciting prospect that people are listening to your song that you made in your room. Spotify has played a big part in getting our music into a lot of different houses. Which is special for sure. I think it is essential for artists within the current frame of music to get streamed but also live shows play a huge part in creating a vibe with fans. It’s a mix of both. Online and offline. But in terms of getting music into the sphere, it’s had a huge impact.
If you created a The New Coast Festival, and could pick three headliners, who would you go for?!
Craig David (2000s) my mum and Chris’s mum in a sort of Ant & Dec type duo and Metallica. That would be so jarring.
Ah man, it’s a good question. Probably for me The Doors, Frank Ocean & Cigarettes After Sex. Those are my obsessions at the moment…all so haunting in their own way.
Should we expect new music soon, or is that info too much to ask?!
This year has been a great one for touring so we’re ready to put out new music, absolutely. Its hard when we know people are wanting more but it felt right to stop and write the music that we wanted to write. It’s very, very soon…We’re real proud of this next EP. Hold tight 🖤💙
