Indie four-piece Sienne are CLOSEUP Promotion’s Artist Spotlight this weep following the release of their latest single ‘Gone Too Long’ was released last week (August 28th). The band give us a catch up on their future as well as their favourite festival headliners.
Sienne, It’s great to have a chat! We love your music as you well know. We’re keen to know about your live shows, what does a Sienne live show usually bring?
James: Hi there! Thanks for having us! Well, we were actually starting to plan our live shows when lockdown came in, which obviously put things on hold, but we’re now back planning that side of things – I can’t say too much but keep an eye on our socials for details about that!
What part of the musical process do you enjoy most, and why? is it performing live, creating your tracks or..?
Charlie: It’s all amazing when you’ve got a good team who write and can bounce off each other so well…I personally have always been big on live performance. It’s a form of expression and every performance is unique, you can have the same song be performed differently every night depending on the player’s mood or feeling that night, and the audience has a part in that. Its energy!
Calan: I’ve always loved the writing side, playing live is fine but there’s nothing I love more than sitting down and writing a song, free to express whatever’s going through your head at the time.
Your tunes have been listened to thousands across the world as Spotify informs us, Spotify is now such a big player in the industry, how important do you think it is for acts?
Calan: I think any opportunity for us to be heard globally is a good thing, but that platform does have its negative factors. In times like the current crisis we face, members of the music industry are struggling like never before, so it would be unbelievable if these services and more were a little more rewarding when it comes to paying artists, however, I can’t deny how huge streaming has become and can’t imagine it to change for a very long time.
James: We feel that streaming services are useful in the sense that it allows our music to reach people worldwide however we don’t agree with how they choose to compensate artists that use the service – unfortunately though, as a new band building a fan base, we decided that we were not in a position to make a stand by not having our music available in such a way.
If you created a Sienne festival, and could pick three headliners, who would you go for?
Charlie: For me, it would be a crime to not book The Killers. Not only an insane body of work but also live its second to none, they don’t put on gigs, they put on SHOWS!!
Calan: I’d love to see The Killers and Manic Street Preachers headline our festival before a big Oasis reunion on the Sunday to top it right off!
Tell us a little about what your new music, when should we be expecting it?!
James: We have plenty to come – Our next single ‘Gone Too Long’ is out on now and you can find it below!
