CloseUp and Blood Records produce limited edition vinyl for ‘Save Our Venues’ campaign

Promotors and record label CloseUp and Blood Records have partnered up to produce a special vinyl print in aid of the Music Venue Trust’s Save Our Venues Campaign and charity L;fe.

As the government is still keeping music venues closed for the foreseeable future, it puts more than 800 of our most adored smaller music venues throughout the country at risk of closure.

They represent the soul of our musical culture, and so comes the requisitioning of Marvin Gaye’s famous title for this project.

In an effort to publicize and procure some extra funding for the Music Venues Trust’s ‘Save Our Venues’ campaign, CloseUp, Blood Records and friends have produced this very special, limited edition, coloured compilation vinyl.

If you saw why the label was sharing artists tweet ‘what’s going on?’ on Twitter last week, you know the answer as to why now!

That is what exclusive vinyl is titled and it features B-sides, demos, remixes & more from some of the UK’s most reputable indie/electronic artists; Peace, Flyte, Whenyoung, Little Comets, Connie Constance, Abbie Ozard, Sad Boys Club, Gengahr, The Night Café, Jerry Williams, Marsicans, JAWS and a secret artist and track still to be announced.

Profits will be shared between MVT (90% of all profits), and musically-aligned, BAME supporting mental health outfits via L;FE (10% of all profits).

In a statement, CloseUp said: “CloseUp and all involved with ‘What’s Going On?’ work with many of the venues that are struggling due to the COVID crisis. Many are under serious threat of permanent closure.

“We host, promote and route tours in and through well over 50% of the venues the MVT is supporting.

“This is a cause dear to us, and to the artists, promoters, managers and agents that make Britain’s musical life so rich and vigorous. Closures will cause obvious immediate problems for individual members of staff, from venue managers, to sound techs, bar managers and more.

They will also create a cultural void, remove opportunity and life from the grassroots up in towns across the UK, for years to come. We simply cannot sit back and allow this to happen.”

Our mental health can’t be ignored so they are teaming up with L;FE; an outfit that gives to many mid-level mental health charities, essentially donating ideas & funding to the absolute front line of the battle against mental distress.

Often music-related, and championed by George Godfrey at Radio X, it’s a cause deserving of the utmost support.
