Indie Central interviews Clay Snyder

This week I have been listening to Hawaii raised singer and songwriter Clay Snyder. Being raised in Hawaii, sitting on the beach was a regular occurrence, for hours just making songs with ease. Below is his single “Your Own Path”. We like it and so should you. This is our first ever interview! And we really excited and do hope you enjoy it!

What’s life like making music in Hawaii? “Hawaii is a very mystic and beautiful place. It is easy to go to the beach or beach park with my guitar and feel comfortable. Most of the songs off of my album ”Your Own Path” were written at friends’ houses were people were relaxing and having barbeques. It seems people have often told me how relaxed they feel when they listen to my music.”

What’s the meaning of your single “Your Own Path”? ”Your Own Path” is a song that represents following your dreams and striving to go forward with whatever your passion is. For me, it was a rough time in my life because I knew I had the talent and drive with my music but I knew I had to leave Hawaii to find the opportunity’s to make me successful.”

Who inspires you to create the music you do? “I have many artists and friends that inspire me to do my music. I have a great deal of support back home on Oahu so I keep that in mind where ever I go. These people have believed in my music and what I am about for a very long time. I think the main inspiration I get is the power to heal yourself and heal others with music. It is a very powerful thing when you have come to realize that.”

If you’re not being a singer/songwriter how do you spend your free time? “Well, I spend most of my time recording new songs or ideas playing music or writing. I have to do a lot of work on the computer with emails and social media to be an independent artist but when I am away from that massive amount of work I like to be outside. I like to barbeques and put on music to just relax. Of course, when it’s the winter time you can’t exactly do that so that’s why I love the summers so much!”

In ten years’ time where do you see yourself? “In ten years’ time, I see myself have released 3 or 4 more albums and actively playing festivals and shows worldwide. My name and music will be very well known and I will be doing music for the rest of my life.”
