We are absolutely loving The Magic Gang recently. We managed to have a catch up with the band to get to know them a little better.
In 2016 you released two EP’s ‘The Magic Gang EP’ and ‘The Second EP From’. Are will likely to see an album release in 2017?
We’ll be releasing more music this year but I think our plan at this point is to hold off on the album until early 2018.
It feels like our sound is really starting to take shape and we don’t want to rush the album until we’ve finished a collection of songs that we feel represent the band as well as possible.
You have recently toured with Spring King and are set to go on tour with Circa Waves as well. What is it like to go on tour as a support band instead of being the headline act? Does the pressure still amount?
It feels like we’re under less pressure on a support tour because there’s less expectation. Our job is really to play a fun half an hour set, which hopefully wins people over. It’s also vital that we tell the audience the name of our band which surprisingly we still forget to do.
Many bands have little traditions or memories that they associate with being on tour, have you obtained any over the years?
I’m not sure we’ve obtained any traditions at this point. Maybe that’ll come when we’ve been touring a little longer. We do a nice, group vocal warm up before each show to prevent me from losing my voice after 30 seconds which tends to happen sometimes
Festival season always come round faster than expected. Is there any festivals in particular that you wish to tackle this year?
We did Reading & Leeds Festival for the first time last year and it was amazing. Obviously we’d love to do that again. Glastonbury is one we’d obviously love to do as well. We’ll be doing stuff around Great Escape in Brighton though which is always fun.
Within 2016, Jack Garratt, Zayn Malik and Blossoms were all pipped to the post by Bradley Walsh, who won highest selling British debut artist. What do you think of this?
I just had to google that name and I now see it’s the guy who hosts the Chase! Did he release an album? Is it good? It must be if it won best selling debut!
In today’s music society, we consume music in many ways, Streaming, Downloading, CD’s, Vinyl, Live Performances. Which is most important to you?
Streaming is obviously the most convenient and cheapest way of listening to music. I do that the most. If I’m going to buy music, it’ll be on vinyl or maybe a download from bandcamp. I go to gigs fairly often. I haven’t bought a CD since the second Good Charlotte album came out though!
What is the ultimate goal within your music careers?
I think our main ambition is just to write and produce a back catalogue of music that we’re proud of. Our songwriting as a band is improving all the time and it’s exciting to see where we end up. I’m also quite excited about how we’re developing as a live act. Every time you play a bigger venue you have to step things up and think about what the audience is experiencing.
