Canned Tunes is a promotions company based in Brighton who are planning to put on live shows with a twist. The charitable project is encouraging everyone to bring 3 cans (non-perishable food) / toiletry donations on the door to gain entry or pay £3.00.
Sue Shanks, Chair of Brighton and Hove Green Party said: “Food poverty in Brighton and Hove is a huge issue at the moment.
“Earlier this Year It was reported that the Whitehawk food bank has seen a 62% increase of Referrals or emergency food supplies and a staggering 4,218 people are recorded as living In emporary accommodation or rough sleeping.
“The response to this crisis from local organisations, charities and residents has been astounding and ‘Canned Tunes’ is a brilliant response.”
Starting life as a small social-enterprise charity project at the ‘Spiritual Bar’ in Camden, ‘Canned Tunes’ has been praised by many (such as the London Green Party) as being a truly noble concept, combining social awareness and live music on a ‘food-for-entry’ basis.
The man behind the project, Max Stern said: “This is a truly innovative way of linking killer live bands with a practical solution of frontline charity.”
All donations are being directed to the Brighton Food Bank. As a non-profitable charity, the simple aim is to collect as many non-perishable cans of food as possible.
As well as Brighton, Max also plans to tackle his hometown of Watford. Keep an eye on Facebook for more updates.
