BlackWaters Release Debut EP ‘People Street’
After a long absence, Sheffield indie-punks BlackWaters return with their four-track debut EP, ‘People Street’ as well as a UK tour next month to celebrate the release.
Formed in Guildford by four students at The Academy of Contemporary music, BlackWaters (our 2018 Ones To Watch shortlist) are a statement band channelling their rage and apathy into their fire-starting anthems. Early tracks ‘Let The Good Times Roll’ and ‘Jarred Up Generation’ conveyed that message of subtle social commentary and have paved the way for their most ambitious release to date, People Street.
The lead single ‘Pick Me Up’ puts the punk-rock on their sleeves as the track has a growling guitar riff and snarling vocals rattling the uninterrupted tranquillity of British suburbia.
People Street mixes intense instrumentals with jarring and witty lyricisms all packaged in BlackWaters’ own brand of post-millennial punk rock. This release sees frontman Max steer the band to darker waters, whilst his erstwhile band members Oliver, David and James provide him with a vessel to contain his increasingly mature lyrical themes.
From humble beginnings on the notorious London gig circuit has honed this tight fit unit into a powerful live force with ‘I Got It Wrong’ echoing vibes from Arctic Monkeys, you will not want to miss the tour in July.
