Day Wave – We Try But We Don’t Fit In
We’ve liked Jackson Phillips since his EP “Nothing At All” and “Total Zombie” The Californian man continues his style of an upbeat arrangement with lo-fi instrumentation that carries his relaxed vocals in a positive direction. Shimmering with optimism. We said, “Here’s to keeping our ears peeled” and now we are sure that Day Wave has that success inside him.
On An On – Icon Love
ON AN ON’s debut album from 2013 was one of the greatest lyrically written of the year in our minds, and for those of you who’ve heard it, you’re already likely aware that the Minneapolis trio is returning with their second album, And The Wave Has Two Sides, July 24 via Roll Call Records. “Icon Love” is the third single released from the forthcoming work, as well as ‘Drifting’ and ‘It’s Not Over’. It includes the same slow paced beat and soft lyrics; similarly to The XX but with a rock twist, certainly one thing to be excited about.

Panama – Jungle
Australian duo Panama is back since their 2013 Always EP with a slow-burn of a pop song, “Jungle.” They have been touring Europe taking vintage-inspired photos series to get an artistic teaser that feels appropriate given the song’s 80s vibe. “Jungle” is a synth-heavy track that feels caught between a power ballad and a pop jam. It’s melancholy but vibrant. “Jungle” is the quintessential summer driving song, and a fresh single that we hope means an LP is finally on the way.

The Maccabees – Something Like Happiness
Something Like Happiness, the latest single form The Maccabees is “about being really happy for someone if they’ve got something,” as lead singer Orland Weeks told NME. The intro kicks off very fast with a touch of Orland’s silky vocals, but distanced from happiness as elements are stripped away. When the track’s full instrumentation returns, it is maintained until the end of the track where it soars, creating a bubbling sense of happiness. ‘Something Like Happiness’ is the second release from The Maccabees’ upcoming album, Marks To Prove It, and follows the release of the album’s explosive title track.

Atlas Genius – Molecules
Atlas Genius have announced a second album Inanimate Objects is released on the 28th August. Now they have released their debut single for the new album ‘Molecules’. This song is tremendous. They carry on the indie pop beat from songs like “On A Day” and “Don’t Make A Scene” that you can easily dance to. The brothers have created “Molecules” with a slight electro-pop twist. The brothers seem to lean towards a more dance-able sound which is slightly different than the smooth sounds we heard on tracks like “Centered On You” and “All These Girls” on their debut When It Was Now.
