Bad Sounds have just got a lot badder

Bad Sounds

Bad Sounds aren’t your typical alternative/indie band, and their new single ‘Hot Head Chippenham’ is a tribute to the 70’s groove sound they deliver.

Just like their other recent single ‘Living Alone’, Ewan Merrett’s keyboard funk opens the track, with the song as a whole having a heavier focus on the instrumentals, which is to be expected from a five-piece band.

Nevertheless, Callum Merrett (vocals) brings the indie to his brother’s funk with conversational verses that are not uncommon to the likes of Jamie T who, like Bad Sounds, allow their southern hometowns to influence their music, and it works.

If you are yet to listen to the five-piece band from Bath, then I recommend checking out one of their live performances, which are just as obscure and inventive as their sound. They don’t just perform a gig for the audience, they throw a party, with one gig seeing them bring a confetti canon that they were shooting into the fans.

Just like fashion, it’s refreshing to see such a powerhouse genre of music from an equally as powerful decade being brought back around by a young up-and-coming band. The single, which is likely to appear on their latest EP ‘Mixtape One’, speaks volumes for what is to be expected for the rest of the album. It has the making and potential to resurrect a decade-old genre with one that is arguably at the forefront of British music today.

Their EP “Mixtape 1” will be out on the 29th September and the boys are touring the UK in November:
