Given the recent state of the country, shoutout to Theresa May, I think it’s fair to say we’re all in need of some funky upbeat vibes to make us feel a little better. The music world has been providing us greatly with that recently and here come The Modern Strangers to add to the list.
Tunbridge Wells lads The Modern Strangers are likely soon to be the leading duo of guitar lead pop/funk/rock music. Having been compared to the likes of Jungle, Bad Sounds, and The Magic Gang, one listen and it’s clear to see where these boys are destined for. Their sound is an instant hook of good vibes, fun-loving riffs, and beats to match.
Their past year has seen the band release five songs in total all of which have been sublime and landed perfectly every time. The duo, set with their backing band, released their singles initially on Soundcloud and quickly found huge praise and support from BBC Introducing in Kent.
So far we’ve seen two main sides to The Modern Strangers. ‘Weekend Men’ let us perfectly drift into their funky guitar and bass lines that could make anyone want to dance. ‘Vanilla’ on the other hand started the same way before ferociously slamming on the breaks and bursting into the heavier overdriven side to their sound.
Recently the pair have headlined their own shows and appeared at festivals with more similar dates lined up for the rest of the year. Whilst I haven’t seen them live, they’re one of the top of my current list just by the recorded releases.
So if you like funky indie pop rock then The Modern Strangers are going to be right up your alley.
