Introducing Grimsby-based Bob Mossop aka Powerslacker this weeks artist spotlight and boy, am I excited to tell you about this guy.
Since I can remember I’ve always been a fan of the electro-indie sub-genre, it’s rare but it’s gold. Artists like Swiss Lips have become favourites of mine extremely quickly because of the close link between genres and that’s exactly what I’ve found within Powerslacker. This link was clear to me as soon as I listened to ‘Anatomy Park’ after accidentally stumbling across it on Soundcloud. Intrigued, I continued on to his page and carried on listening to other material. All of it as wonderful as the rest.
What I find so special about Powerslacker is the uniqueness and the eclecticism within the songs and also the fact his vocals sound like Jamie T and Mac DeMarco had a child. Whether that is just my own personal opinion I am not sure. But the electro voice paired with the slightly gritty vocals is an unusual match made in heaven. My personal favourite and top recommendation would be ‘For People Who Spit Blood When They Brush’ in which you can here the resemblance to Mac DeMarco.
My suggestion would be to get onto SoundCloud as soon as possible and listen to Powerslacker. His ‘jangly pop music’ will have you feeling like you’re traveling through space whilst also having a holiday in the sun.
It is possible that Powerslacker has been my favourite musical discovery of 2016 and I hope to god he continues up the path he is headed. On top of this, he also makes rad music videos.
Check him out on SoundCloud and Facebook, also make sure you have a listen below!
