No strangers to a boozy evening escalating into tipsy early morning songwriting sessions, Leeches are standing broadly in the Bournemouth limelight, acquired through the production of zesty riffs and infectious melodies, not to mention a strenuous recording process (something to do with makeshift studios and singing into cupboards, don’t ask).
Having formed the band only in the early summer of 2016, it’s inspiring to see how far they’ve progressed since then; Leeches have already performed alongside the likes of Spring King, released their debut single ‘Inside Voices’ back in October, and have released their first EP, ‘Strange Bonds’ just over a week ago.
Just to put things in a wee bit of perspective, guitarist/vocalist Ben Lowe has very eloquently given a low-down on the EP; “‘Strange Bonds’ is basically what happens when you reverse brew prison wine, a heady mix of alternative/heavy psychedelic pop-rock and jazz.
Big…and sort of small at the same time.”
Interpret that however you wish.
Ingenuity and confidence when it comes to finding ones way around a fretboard is not something that has gone a miss in Leeches’s EP; the sheer intensity of the tracks is captivating, it’s clear that passion and talent is present in copious amounts, and an abundance of capability surrounding each element of their songs exceeds them considering the short time Leeches has existed.
See em live for a good night and a bit of a laugh, or add them up on your playlists because this band has been such a lucky find so I’d feel selfish if I didn’t share this.
