Alt-rock risers cruush hit you with sonic darkwave rhythms

Hailing from Manchester, cruush is the latest alternative heavyweights to come out of the city.

Comprising of Amber Warren (guitar & vocals) Arthur Boyd (guitar) drummer Fotis Kalantzis (drums) and bassist Charlie Marriott (bass), ‘Headspace’ is the newest single to get to grips with.

Whilst shoegaze’s dusty magic and thrust it into the 2020s, combining grit-your-teeth distortion with a disarming sweetness – think the delicacy of Wolf Alice whipped in the cyclonic guitars of My Bloody Valentine – cruush layer grey, gloomy textures with grunge pop.

Among the narcotic swirls of psychedelia, Amber’s melodic splendour is antidote-like, stealing attention from the tidal waves of noise with queasy timbres of disillusion, doubt and confusion.

Engaging new single ‘Headspace’ comes with the announcement of a new EP called ‘Nice Things Now, All The Time’, out April 12th.

The band describe it as “maybe the most relatable song on the EP”. They said: “Everyone has a crush they’ve tried to get over. Really fun song for us to play and has been a fan favourite at shows for ages.

“We tried really hard to capture its natural ebb and flow and live dynamic in the studio and it worked really well, it’s well worth hanging around for that last chorus. Chorus guitars are very much inspired by Ride’s spanky guitars on songs like vapour trail.”

cruush are once again set to bring their thoughtform nightscapes rock to the masses. Clad in the muted tones of charity shop bargains, they live out the hospitality misery of working the city’s bars and cafes by day, while their nocturnal selves sell out shows. Having toured with and supported BDRMM, NewDad, The Lounge Society, Far Caspian, Ian Sweet, Flyying Colours and Pastel, the band are setting out on a headline European tour and playing festivals such as Left of the Dial and Beyond the Music.
