Album Review: Boston Manor – Be Nothing

This album is almost guaranteed to be the ticket the boys needed to finally make it in the spotlight and show everyone that they’re sticking around.

The pop-punk five piece have produced something that is exactly what everyone would expect from them – an album full of angst, raw vocals and intense guitar riffs that leaves you gripped from start to finish.

Opening with ‘Burn You Up’, Boston Manor let their listeners know that they’re not messing around – they’ve matured greatly compared to their ‘Driftwood’ EP, the song containing their usual heavy guitars and drum beats while vocalist Henry Cox belts out relatable lyrics that scream emotion and heartbreak.

Hit single ‘Lead Feet’ comes in at second in the track listing, the lyrics full of passion and guilt as it follows an experience Cox had with a school friend who fell down the wrong path, showing how two close people could lead such different lives without even knowing.

Boston Manor’s development as a band can easily be seen throughout this record, especially with the track ‘Broken Glass’, where the band’s vocalist begins with heartfelt lyrics accompanied with a soft guitar background instrumental, only joined by their usual hardcore sound half way through the song.

Their debut album is definitely a statement for the future of the pop-punk scene, the band never putting out a record that is anything less than what fans expect from them. This album is full of power and angst – perfect if you want to belt it out in your room or blast it in the car while you’re driving.

Closing up with ‘Fossa’, the song starts out with a similar vibe as ‘Broken Glass’ – a soft guitar riff where drums eventually join before drifting back to the soft tempo along with Cox’s raw vocals. The peaceful opening melody of the song contradicts the almost violent lyrics – based around the act of burning someone’s house down. It holds the angry, full-of-angst vibe that Boston Manor is all about – and finishes the ten track album off perfectly.

Boston Manor are taking the UK and EU by storm this November with support from Can’t Swim and Wallflower. Check the album out here and get tickets to their tour here!
