Bands are constantly releasing new music, but in the music industry it seems to be albums that make the most impact. It’s probably due to the thought and consideration of structuring an album, having a hidden message, the artwork or even just making a cracking playlist! 2016 has certainly served up some beauties for our ears and it’s only fair that we celebrate their excellence.
‘I Like It When You Sleep, For You Are So Beautiful Yet So Unaware Of It’, The 1975’s golden contribution to a defining year for music. The album was a highly anticipated after a platinum self-titled debut album. Matty Healy came out and told the world the band had taken a different path from their debut album, labelling his album as ‘art’. The 1975 made a bold statement and the critics called it the ‘most unpredictable album of 2016′. Conseuqently , the album reached #1 in both US and UK charts and won NME’s album of 2016 as well as featuring in the Times’ Top Albums of 2016 at #9.
Since the release of their debut album ‘The 1975’, they have had tour after tour in all corners of the world, have been offered to play on the main stage at both Reading & Glastonbury but decided to turn the offers down to play on the smaller stages and have even performed with the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra in September to celebrate the release of the album.
‘I Like It When You Sleep, For You Are So Beautiful Yet So Unaware Of It’ includes 17 songs which all have a different sound but are all linked to Matty Healy’s past; ranging from Instrumentals such as ‘Please Be Naked’ to upbeat pop anthems, ‘Change of Heart’ and ‘The Sound’ to ‘Nana’ in which Healy sings about the death of his grandma and songs such as ‘If I Believe’ which question religion.
