Interlacing witty yet socially-charged lyrics with an alt pop infused soundscape, Michael Aldag releases his highly-anticipated single ‘Trust Funds’.
Having already released two other singles ‘Divorce’ and ‘Arrogance’ this year alone, Aldag’s has certainly carved out a promising path for himself.
The rising Liverpool star has teased the track on TikTok the past couple of weeks, Aldag’s comical yet relatable personality seeps through into his music and we are presented with a commentary on the lifestyles of the middle class.
“I think a certain level of financial-security can create a level of entitlement so I wanted to ridicule that. It’s an important song for me as it preaches that ‘no one should have a Range Rover when they’re 17’ which is something I’ll stand by ’til death.”
Michael Aldag speaking about ‘Trust Funds’
The track is a juxtaposition of a synth laden, acoustic pop anthem but propped up with the production of a glossy, hip-hop record. For a 19 year old singer-songwriter, it’s impressive and polished.
With an enticing electronic introduction ‘Trust Funds’ draws the audience in but continues to build throughout the track with a captivating chorus.
It’s certainly been stuck in our heads ever since we heard it, and no doubt it’s piercing message echoes around the walls of every 17 year old with a car that they can’t drive yet.
